would tarmac be good for my garden path

We have built a new house, and will be put tarmac from the road edge up to our gates. It has been suggested that we also put tarmac on our forecourt AND run the tarmac on to our garden paths.

I think I would prefer slabs, but I am told the tarmac method would be cost effective. I am struggling to see what the path would look like, I have found all the examples are for "public" areas. Why is this, and can you point me to a web page that lets me see examples of a garden paths done in tarmac.
