How to safely and effectively remove ice from our steep asphalt driveway?

My husband and I just bought a new house before Christmas. It sits on a hill, with a steep driveway on the side of it. We just had our first snow for the winter, and cannot get in or out of our driveway safely. We are wondering what our options are for de-icing our now ski slope?!

I look forward to hearing your answers.
Thank you, Cat

sprinkle magnesium chloride or rock salt to help melt the ice in your driveway. after doing so, this is the time you get your shovel.
