) & H developers have put a layer of tarmac over beds with new soil waiting for trees to be planted in April/May in our town, Walton-on Thames. Could you tell me whether this will damage the soil - thoughts of chemicals and no oxygen come to mind? They say they have done this as a safety measure pending the arrival of the trees. Many thanks Judy McRae.

actually, this might have an effect on the soil since asphalt is a mixture of different chemical compounds.
