finished asphalt weighs (apx) 116 lb per sy 1" thick. a square yard is 3'x3' or 9 sf. multiply the sy by the thickness desired and you get the accurate pounds and devide by 2000 to get tons needed for a job.
the example 18'x50' 3"thick (348 lb/ sy), used will take 17.4 tons. doug was right at 18 tons
From: Doug
18 tons
From: wes
16.875 tons
From: Nathan
this is what i been using. but im new at this could anyone tell if it seems to be right l x w =sq ft/9= yd(sqaured)x thickness(1"=110 2" =220 3"= 330)=cubic yards / 2000= tons
so 18x50@ 3" deep =16.5 tons
