asphalt driveway - new - laid this week. when should it be sealed. i understand it needs to "cure."

From: Dan

yes, it should cure a little. a very simple test to see if it ready or not. i am an asphalt maintenance contractor. i do this for a living. believe me i know. i do this every day. simply throw a pail of water on it and if you see that the water does not wet your asphalt kind like when oil and water the mix. well this is it. if you dont see any oil residue it means it can and should be sealed. i'd say about 30 days or so. please stay away from the oil base mix with diesil fuel. this is bad for your asphalt.
