i have 66 year old pine floors in my home. the floors were covered with asphalt and then linoleum laid, how do i get the asphalt off the wood. i have tried sanding and the asphalt just gets hot and smears. help???? | |
we have used orbital and barrel sanders and nothing is touching the asphalt. i am assuming the asphalt is probably 30-40 years old. i am thinking of trying diesel fuel as a last resort. every chemical thus far known to man and two contractors later still have not been able to remove this stuff.

what you can do is heat-stripping. you need a heat gun to do this method. the process will heat the asphalt and make it soft again then that is the time you take it off. the wood under might suffer a little though. but since you've tried many methods and didn't work, might as well try this one.
