i live on long island, ny. i had my driveway done last fall. this spring i have dandelions and other plants growing through in about 12-15 spots.

additionally, it is not even hot yet and whenever a car backs out of a parking area and turns its wheels the asphalt is tears up at the surface area. i even have two or three areas where there are major imptints into the asphalt from turning tires.

quite frankly, it is only about nine months and it looks like hell.

contracor or material or bmaybe both?

please advise

your problem could be both contractor and materials. if your material have a diesel smell then they have been contaminated some where along the line either at the plant or by contractor. the contractor should have placed a gravel base under asphalt and sprayed vegetation killer on all areas to be paved and you should have no problem with dandelions. some marks on asphalt are normal from power steering but only where you are turning the wheel with car stopped. contractor should fix problems.
