will asphalt driveway cracks within 1 year if gravel is laid down and compact the day before laying down the asphalt? | |
My driveway is initially a single driveway, but we're extending it to a double driveway. Gravel has been laid down for over a year in the single driveway portion, but the extended part has very little gravel. I don't believe the builder dig deep enough or place enough gravel for when it rain, the drive became very muddy to the extend and my whole shoe almost sunk.
The asphalt company say that if they compact the gravel the day before, then there shouldn't be any cracks down the road. Is that true?
Thanks,
Thi.

the key to a good road is the compacting of the base. road compaction must be done gradually for best results. the fact that it gets muddy and your shoe sunk on it, means it is not yet compacted before laying the gravel and its true, it needs compacting.
